In September 2015, Sweet Tooth Café opened up along Gloucester’s historic Main Street in the Gloucester Village, expanding what was once the Sweet Tooth Parlor Cupcakery into a full bakery and café. Always fresh and local whenever possible, owner Crystal Burton is proud to offer vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, low carb, keto, dairy free, and healthy choices alongside her wildly popular sweet treats and savory meals.

Growing up, Crystal always loved being in the kitchen. During high school, she landed a job as a Cake Decorator at Wal-Mart in Tappahannock. Originally worried she wouldn't have the skills necessary for the job, she not only became a highly skilled decorator, but also created a dream of owning her own parlor one day. She went on to Christopher Newport University where she earned a degree in Political Science and English, leading her work as a probation officer.

For seven years, Crystal prepared and sold cakes and cupcakes out of her home kitchen. Her business grew quickly, so she combined a lease with a fellow business owner and sold cupcakes at a small shop on Main Street. That was before 2015, when she placed first in the Launch Gloucester entrepreneur competition and won the support she needed - start up capital, business consulting, and marketing support - to expand the parlor into a full fledged cafe.

In November of 2023, Crystal embarked on an exciting new chapter by renovating a historic building on Main Street and relocating her business. The grand re-opening was a celebrated event, drawing in enthusiastic community supporters. The new location boasts a charming blend of indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for any occasion. Inside, multiple seating areas provide a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, with historic photos adorning the walls offering a glimpse into Main Street's rich past. Upon entering, guests are greeted by inviting staff and an enticing display of desserts in the window. Patrons can order to-go or stay for a relaxed meal. The outdoor patio, elegantly designed, extends along the side of the building and opens into a spacious dining area. This inviting space features tables adorned with vibrant umbrellas and a newly constructed pergola, providing ample shade and a touch of charm for diners to enjoy a leisurely meal in comfort. The Sweet Tooth Cafe

The cafe menu includes items such as seasonal soups, sandwiches, quiche, and customizable salads, all made from scratch.

Sweet Tooth's array of "made from scratch" desserts including warm cinnamon rolls, specialty cheesecakes, our signature banana pudding, cakes and cupcakes, all with natural, gourmet ingredients. And of course, the custom cakes and cupcakes Crystal is known for remains. All of Sweet Tooth's products are baked from scratch with no added preservatives and no artificial flavors. They are made moments prior to pick-up or delivery. Baking from scratch allows Crystal and her team to create a limitless variety of flavors, and most importantly, it provides a rich home-made sweetness that can't be accomplished any other way. Sweet Tooth does not use box mixes and most ingredients are not easily found in a food pantry. Cupcakes are made using the world's most natural ingredients such as Madagascar Vanilla, Organic Vanilla Beans, European Butter, Valrhona and Guittard Chocolates, farm fresh eggs, and local fruits.

We are excited to share that Sweet Tooth Cafe has been recognized in 2024 by Virginia Living as one of the best bakeries and best sandwich shops in eastern Virginia. Additionally, in 2020, we were honored with the Retail Alliance ROTY award for Retailer of the Year. These prestigious awards reflect our commitment to excellence and our dedication to quality. Our team is extremely proud of these accolades and we remain deeply grateful to our local community, friends, and family for their unwavering support.
